Quiz Today we will have a vocabulary quiz. It will cover vocabulary from Chapter 13. Use the lists at the back of the chapter as your definitive guide of words and phrases to study. I will describe or define an item from the vocabulary list and you will need to tell me what word or phrase I am describing. You will not have access to a textbook or other notes during the quiz. There will be a signup list for time slots for the quiz to be conducted one-on-one over Microsoft Teams. (This signup list has not yet been created or posted.)
viernes, 27 de marzo Start Chapter 14
Today's fun video is the song Viene de mí written and performed by the Argentine singer La Yegros. I'm not going to try to translate it because if we could say in prose and without music what we say with poetry and with music, we wouldn't need poetry or music. But do notice the refrain: Viene de ti / viene de mí / viene del viento / no miento / es un sentimiento / es un sentimiento. I think we know all those words, but if there are a few you don't remember, look them up. Notice how those words sound and rhyme and fit together through rhythm and alliteration in Spanish. However you try to express the same idea in English, the resulting phrases won't quite feel the same, and the feeling of those words is part of their meaning. That is (part of) what gets lost in translation. Translating is like trying to carry water in your cupped hands… something always leaks out and is lost.
leer 408
entregar 408 1 – 4 (answer in a complete sentence.)
entregar Puntos Personales workbook chapter 13.
¡Y que tengas un buen fin de semana!

All assignments are from the Puntos de partida book unless otherwise stated. The numbers indicate page numbers, the letters indicate the activity on that page. Remember that sometimes an activity starts on one page and continues onto the next page, but I will only indicate the page it starts on. Also, sometimes activities have names, like intercambios for example. And sometimes I only want you to do part of an activity, often labeled something like paso 1 or paso 2 in the book.

Leer y estudiar means to read and study the indicated pages. If there is vocabulary on those pages, read it, practice pronouncing it, and begin studying and learning it according to methods we will discuss in class. If the pages explain points of grammar or cultural information, read and think about them. Try to understand them and be ready to ask in class about things that are not clear.

Preparar means to prepare the activity. Read the directions and be ready to do the exercise or activity in class. You should think about how to answer the questions before class, so that in class you can do so without much hesitation.

Hacer means to do the activity. I’m not going to collect it, so you can do it in you book or on paper, as you wish.

Escribir means to write the assignment out, on a sheet of paper and bring it to class ready to turn in. Be sure to include your name, class and section or class hour, and an indication of what the assignment is (the page numbers and exercise letter or name.) Either write clearly or use a computer and print the assignment out.

Entregar means to turn in. I usually use this category for things you've been working on for a while, such as the workbook assignments. Make sure your name, class and section or class hour, and the name of the assignment are on all work turned in.
